Hello! I’m Dr Melinda Roland and I am excited to share my innovative approaches to healing with you!
For over 40 years, my work has served as a catalyst for personal transformation, assisting clients to identify, understand and shift what's preventing them from reaching their unlimited potential.
My cutting-edge approach to healing, Focal Energetics, was developed from insights and observations gathered throughout my years of working with many healing modalities.
My approach looks at every dimension of the being with the intent to resolve issues at their source. By reading the body's map and its energetic response, an "interruption" in a client’s field can be detected, as well as its reflection in the body. From this, their discovery of what it is and when it occurred can be facilitated.
These interruptions are pivotal to our journey as they shape our views of the world, often triggering self-imposed blockages and the perception of "glass ceilings." Over time, the physical body may be impacted.
Once the interruption has been uncovered, clients are supported in tracking and resolving any manifestations – whether emotional, spiritual, mental or physical.
And importantly, they come to understand, interpret and reshape limiting beliefs - and - realign with their authentic selves.
ABOUT ME
I received my Masters degree in Physical Therapy from Stanford University, Summa Cum Laude, my B.A. in Experimental Psychology from UCSB Summa Cum Laude, along with the honor of Outstanding Graduating Senior and Phi Beta Kappa.
I earned my degree in Oriental Medicine and Acupuncture from the now Pacific College of Oriental Medicine, graduating at the top of my class, and my doctorate from SAMRA University of Oriental Medicine.
I was blessed to be trained and mentored personally by the late Dr. John E Upledger. The resultant subject of my doctoral thesis was The Application of Acupuncture and Traditional Chinese Medicine to Craniosacral Therapy.
In 1987 I was asked by Dr Upledger to join the faculty of the Upledger Institute International at its inception, teaching Craniosacral Therapy, Somatoemotional Release, all levels of Clinical Applications, and Pediatric Craniosacral Therapy. I developed Applying Acupuncture Principles to CranioSacral Therapy in 1988, a curriculum co-created with Dr. John Upledger.
I have taught and lectured both nationally and internationally since 1987.
A research director and team leader for The Upledger Foundation-Ricky Williams Foundation Concussion Studies, we treated ex NFL players with documented concussion history using Craniosacral Therapy and Visceral Manipulation. Our results were significant and published in Journal of Medical Acupuncture, associated with Harvard University, in 2017.
In private practice since 1977, I am board certified in both physical therapy and acupuncture. I hold diplomate status in 3 areas: Acupuncture, Oriental Medicine and Craniosacral Therapy. This is complemented by years of study in multiple manual therapy approaches, homeopathy, and in both functional and energy medicine.
I often get asked “ Why did you choose this field?”
The simple answer is, it chose me.
The observations and insights from this extensive work are what led me to create my own proprietary, cutting edge approach to healing, Focal Energetics®. My personal body of work, FE® is a culmination of over 40 years of patient care and discovery.
For each client, my intention is to facilitate healing at the deepest level with attention to, and balancing of, body, mind and spirit. In addition to facilitating physical and emotional change, my work and the teaching of Focal Energetics® and Craniosacral Therapy is my passionate contribution towards a bigger vision- that of a peaceful, loving world.

MY SERVICES Focal Energetics is the core of my current practice and the approach that I use most frequently with clients. As needed, I will use other healing modalities, including:

• Neuro-muscular re-education
The 2nd Question I am often asked is “Does Focal Energetics work and can it help me?”
The short answer is yes.
My philosophy is self-knowledge and awareness are integral components for healing. Our answers are personal and are already within each of us, we just need to access them. My approach looks at every dimension of the being with the intent to resolve issues at the source. By reading the body’s map and its energetic response, an “interruption” in the client’s field is detectable, as well as its reflection in the body. I facilitate both the point of discovery and determination of when it occurred. Once this is uncovered, we continue to work collaboratively together to treat manifestations with individualized goals.
Healing is a very personal experience. I've developed the Focal Energetics® approach to be unique to each individual. Each session is tailored to your distinct needs and no two sessions are exactly alike.
